Fans erupt as Ravichandran Ashwin’s 6-fer rips through Bangladesh, guiding India to victory in Chennai Test

Ravichandran Ashwin‘s all-round performance was the cornerstone of India’s comprehensive win over Bangladesh on Day 4 of the first Test held in Chennai on Sunday (September 22). Ashwin showcased his class with both bat and ball, scoring a crucial century (113 off 133 balls) in India’s first innings and taking six wickets (6/88) in Bangladesh’s second innings. His contributions were vital as India set a massive 515 runs target and eventually triumphed by 280 runs, starting the series on a high note.

India’s strong start and key contributions

Despite early setbacks, India managed to post a solid total of 376 in their first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal anchored the innings with a patient 56, but it was Ravindra Jadeja (86) and Ashwin’s counter-attacking partnership that rescued India from 144/6. Their stand pushed India to a competitive score, while Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud shone with figures of 5/83, offering the visitors some hope but failing to stop the Indian lower order from piling on runs.

Bangladesh crumbles under pressure

Bangladesh faltered in response, folding for a mere 149 in their first innings. Jasprit Bumrah led India’s bowling attack, taking 4/50, with Akash Deep and Jadeja offering ample support. Bangladesh’s batters struggled against the relentless Indian bowling, failing to mount a significant challenge, leaving them with a massive deficit to overcome.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s masterful bowling

While Bangladesh’s second innings showed brief signs of resistance, with Najmul Hossain Shanto (82) and Shadman Islam (35) putting up a fight, Ashwin was once again the wrecker-in-chief.
