Manchester United have teamed up with the Class of 92 to use Salford City’s stadium.

United’s u21s are set to use the Peninsula Stadium for select fixtures with the first being next week’s opening tie of the Premier League International Cup.

Salford City announced on their website that tickets will be available for the match against Hertha Berlin II for £3 for Adults and £1 for Kids.

The competition features 16 teams from Premier League 2 and 16 teams invited from other European countries, with United’s group opposition also including PSV Eindhoven, Sparta Prague, and FC Nordsjælland.

The venue agreement comes on the back of fixture congestion at the u21s’ usual home of Leigh Sports Village.

Sharing the ground with United’s women’s side and rugby club Leigh Leopards, the u21s are left hunting for a new venue as United do not own the stadium and cannot guarantee its use.

As a result, the u21s recent Manchester derby was played at Carrington behind closed doors with no supporters in attendance.

The move to the Peninsula Stadium will be beneficial to fans as it will not only ensure the matches will be played in front of fans but the closer proximity to Old Trafford makes it a more convenient location for supporters to get to for the usual midweek kick-offs.

The agreement to use the stadium isn’t one way though, with Class of 92’s Salford City using United’s Littleton Road training facilities according to The Athletic, a training ground which will be familiar to the Salford owners.

The outdoor facilities, close to United’s former training ground The Cliff, is only used in the evenings these days by United’s younger age groups and The Manchester United Foundation for events such as the Marcus Rashford invitational tournament which took place earlier in the summer.

As a result the training grounds are left empty for Salford to use during the day.

It is said that Ryan Giggs, co-owner and director of football at Salford, was involved in the talks for the two clubs to share facilities.

It is unclear as of yet which other matches will take place at the Peninsula Stadium, with United yet to even include the Premier League International Cup on the official site’s u21s schedule.
