Requiring massive funding, Suarez luckily got the full support of former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson in transforming that dream into reality.

“Bringing the fight here won’t be possible without financial support from Gov. Chavit, who always reminds me that I don’t fight just for personal glory but for the country’s honor,” said Suarez in Filipino during a press conference held at the Corinthian Gardens in Quezon City.
Suarez’s latest conquest was a third-round knockout of Jorge Castañeda of Arizona, Texas nearly two weeks ago, claiming the World Boxing Organization (WBO) International super featherweight strap and installing himself as No. 1 contender in the division.

Singson has appointed Filipino-American Ricky Navalta to open negotiations with the camp of Mexico’s Emmanuel Navarrete, the WBO super featherweight titleholder.
Importing the Suarez-Navarette clash on home ground seems demanding and the Filipino prizefighter’s handlers have been keeping their fingers crossed.

“After we won against Castaneda, Carl Moretti approached me and asked who we prefer to fight next,” said Delfin Boholst, Suarez’s coach and trainer.
A top executive at Top Rank under Bob Arum, Moretti holds the promotional rights over Suarez and Navarette.
Now 36, Suarez was a 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympian and long-time national boxer who won several medals in an assortment of international competitions before turning pro in 2019.
“I made it clear Charly wants Navarette,” said Boholst.
