Manchester United’s problems at left-back have been ongoing since last season when both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were sidelined for the majority of the campaign.

In fact, the Netherlands international did not kick a ball since the pre-season of 2023 and is yet to regain match fitness but has been spotted back in training.

With the England international also out of commission, Erik ten Hag has been forced to play Diogo Dalot out of position, with the Portuguese struggling for form.

Now following the concerning update regarding Noussair Mazraoui, the manager will have a major selection dilemma ahead of the league game against Brentford.

LB issues

Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are emergency options while academy graduate Toby Collyer was also tried in that position during the Barnsley game even though he is a midfielder by trade.

With the team languishing in 14th place and with the pressure ramping on the Dutch boss, he will need as much help as he can get from his players.

In some much-needed good news on the injury front, Voetbal International have claimed that Malacia is close to making his return to the pitch with game time likely to come in November.

He might even make it in time for the matches in October but the Red Devils will be extra careful with his rehabilitation in order to avoid any further complications.

“According to insiders, Malacia is aiming for a quick return to the Old Trafford pitch. The left back is already training fully with the group of players. Now he also seems to be quickly becoming match-fit.

Malacia update

“Manchester United are cautious with Malacia, but he should be playing again in early November or even at the end of this month. That would put an end to a difficult period. He has been sidelined since July 2023.”

The 20-time English league champions have huge games lined up in the league as well as the Europa League and Carabao Cup in the coming couple of weeks and the Dutch full-back will definitely be needed by his manager.

INEOS may have granted a reprieve to Ten Hag during the international break but will likely not afford too much more time and will expect results to improve and soon.

Or else the former Ajax coach might find himself out of a job very soon. Plenty of high-profile names are still being linked with his job.
