£80m for Viktor Gyokeres is starting to look more and more like a bargain and has made me wonder more and more, why haven’t we signed him yet?

Obviously this is tongue in cheek, as are the titles. I know this is not Football Manager and there are plenty of variables that go into signing a new player. For example, said player might not even want to move, and I think that has been the case for Gyokeres so far.

I do hope that whatever the issues were between the player and one of our directors can be buried for the sake of everyone, because for me, Gyokeres HAS to be one of our priorities when he inevitably makes his big move in January or the summer.

Gyokeres is going to be moving from Sporting soon, and I’m sorry but I still have a feeling that he will join Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. I know through sources that he has been keen to go with Amorim to his next destination, which was very almost Chelsea at one point.

But all the big clubs who want a new striker, and maybe even those who don’t particularly want or need one, will be in for Gyokeres, because he is THAT good.

I’m not hearing the ‘he’s playing in a crap league’ stuff anymore. He bagged a hat-trick last night against the current champions of England, and he’s got 11 goal involvements in his last 13 European appearances which happen to not be in said ‘crap’ league. He’s now scored 5 goals in 4 appearances in the Champions League this season.

He also has experience of playing in England and if anything, against even tougher and more physical defenders in the Championship. That experience would be vital for the Premier League transition.

This guy bags goals for fun and is a all round 9, something we still do not have, with massive respect to Nicolas Jackson who has many attributes of a 9 but not the full works, yet at least.

23 goals scored before we even head deep into November is just remarkable, whatever league you are doing that in.

His physicality is key, and goals like this holding off the defender is something we need to see at Chelsea – bullying centre backs.

He’s a complete striker, and if Chelsea are serious, they need to go out and do all they can to bring him to Stamford Bridge as soon as physically possible. Pay the money.

Brighton sold him for £1m FYI, let that one sink in…. Genuinely wondering and not pointing fingers, but I do wonder who signed that one off….
