BAYBE is one of the most bad*ss boundary-pushers out there, and she’s continuing her thought-provoking creative streak with her latest single: ‘GOOD BUSINESS’ with Ameer Vann! The song tackles greed and how it can take over even what’s supposed to be our safest spaces, with an energetic guitar riff and a police siren sample that underscores how wrong that greed is. On the surface, it’s a relentlessly catchy track that would fit perfectly in an action movie, but listen a little closer and it’s a battle cry for fairness and transparency.

In ‘GOOD BUSINESS,’ I wanted to explore the darker side of the church’s influence, and how the institution often profits off the belief and trust of its followers. The producer, Paige Blue, and I wanted the track to be a heavy and hard-hitting blend of rock and hip-hop, and Ameer Vann turned out to be the perfect feature for the second verse. With lyrics that are both cheeky and critical, I made sure to toe the line between mockery, and highlighting the exploitation of faith as a business model.

BAYBE

To celebrate ‘GOOD BUSINESS,’ we came up with four business ideas inspired by BAYBE songs! Of course, this article is satirical, in line with BAYBE’s playful tone. We don’t condone violence or anything of the sort, but maybe you’ll get inspiration for your own safe, creative business!

‘Pretty Gay’: Professional Boyfriend Fighter

Are your friends’ boyfriends not giving them the attention they deserve? Did your crush’s boyfriend forget their anniversary and leave her crying? That’s where your Professional Boyfriend Fighter side would kick in, inspired by ‘Pretty Gay!’ You don’t have to literally throw hands, but maybe a stern text or two would show those boys what they stand to lose and wake them up from being disrespectful.

“Try me, all your boyfriends wanna fight me…”

‘Dinner For One’: Hitwoman For Creeps

For legal reasons, this is a joke and we don’t advise becoming a hitwoman. If ‘Dinner For One’ was a person, though, she would be one. And the proof is in the music video! The video sees BAYBE posing as a young teenager and killing a guy who wanted to go on a date with her despite her saying she’s 14. If you also want to take a stand against creeps, consider volunteering with an organization like RAINN that helps women and children impacted by abuse.

When we got to interview BAYBE around the release of ‘Pretty Gay!,’ she gave us more insight into the deeper messages she puts into videos like ‘Dinner For One!’ She explained, “I have absolutely no idea if people catch onto it or not. I hope they do! It’s all very intentional. I’ve tried many times to keep the artwork, visuals, and promo for songs ultra simple (for my own sanity), but I cannot do it. I am obsessed with pairing each song with a visual world, as I think songs on their own hold much less weight than if I can immerse someone into it fully.”

“Promise I’ll be grateful just to have a bite…”

‘CHERRY PIE 2.0’: Neighborhood Baker & Life Coach

Let’s get back to less dangerous career paths and press play on ‘CHERRY PIE 2.0!’ Thanks to the confidence in the lyrics, we think this song would make a dang good life coach. Confidence like BAYBE expresses? ‘Yes Please!’ And in line with the pie theme, being a baker on top of coaching would be the cherry on top of a solid career.

“Sweet as cherry pie, I’ll make you mine…”

‘Stray Dog’: Dog Walker For Girls In Bad Relationships

If someone’s in a dangerously unhealthy relationship, getting in exercise and taking care of their pet might be the last thing on their mind. So take a cue from ‘Stray Dog’ and step in! The song sees BAYBE practically rescuing a girl from a toxic, controlling partner who treated her more like a dog than a human. Thanks to BAYBE’s thoughtfulness, the girl sees the reality of the situation she’s trapped in and steps away to be with BAYBE instead. Walking their dogs would be pretty thoughtful of you and might make you some new friends or a girlfriend!

“Did you tell her to sit? Did you tell her to stay?”
