Guess who’s back? We are, but more importantly, Kristy Boyce is back with another YA gaming romance! Believe it or not, we started the year with her January book, Dungeons and Drama. So it only makes sense for us to end it with her December book, Dating and Dragons.

Dating and Dragons by Kristy Boyce follows Quinn Norton, a new girl in school who hopes to have a fresh start after what happened at her last school. She soon joins a D&D game to try to make friends, and the group also includes Logan Weber, the cute boy she encountered on her first day.

But what happens when the group doesn’t allow dating other members? Can Quinn ignore her growing feelings for Logan? We quickly fell in love with Dating and Dragons, and here are just three of many reasons why!

Book Overview: Dating And Dragons

Summary: Quinn Norton is starting over at a new high school and hopes that joining a D&D game will be the trick to making friends. The plan sounds even better when she’s invited into a group that includes Logan Weber, the cute and charming guy she met on her first day of class. But this isn’t your average D&D campaign— this group livestreams their games and enforces strict rules: no phones allowed, and no dating other group members.

Quinn is willing to accept the rules, even if it makes Logan off-limits. And she quickly learns that doing so won’t be a problem, since Logan goes from charismatic to insufferable as soon as she agrees to join. As their bickering—and bantering—intensifies inside and outside the game, Quinn can’t help wondering: Is Logan’s infuriating behavior a smokescreen for hidden feelings? Quinn is risking it all, and the twenty-sided dice are rolling!

The Gameplay

Yes, we loved the gameplay in Dungeons and Drama. So we knew we’d love the gameplay in Dating and Dragons just as much! It doesn’t matter whether you know anything about D&D or not; you’re bound to have a blast reading along. Quinn’s group meets every Saturday to livestream their D&D campaign, and it gets serious. Her banter with Logan’s character is so entertaining. And we just love all the creative storylines that the Dungeon Master and the group devise to progress in the game.

Quinn’s Friend Group

Another thing we love about Dating and Dragons is Quinn’s friend group, specifically the twins, Kashvi and Sanjiv. Kashvi is Quinn’s best friend, and they quickly become close, being the only two girls in their D&D group. Quinn and Kashvi bond over jewelry making, talking about crushes, and sharing (most of) their secrets. Sanjiv is Kashvi’s twin brother, who brings lighthearted and good vibes to the group. He’s protective of his sister, and we love their sibling dynamics inside the game and outside.

The Forbidden Love

Not to be dramatic, but we’d die for Quinn and Logan’s forbidden romance in Dating and Dragons. Their D&D group has strict rules against dating other members and everything must remain platonic or professional. Quinn’s already been burned once when she tried dating the DM from her previous group. Logan similarly tries to avoid being alone with Quinn, but not if Quinn’s meddling grandmother can help it. Their romantic tension soon turns into obvious mutual pining, and we’re living for it!

With an entertaining D&D campaign, a solid friend group, a will-they-won’t-they forbidden romance, we can’t stop thinking about Kristy Boyce’s Dating and Dragons!
