US Stock Market Today, Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq: Wall Street benchmarks suffered heavy losses on Friday, with the blue-chip S&P 500 index moving further away from a record peak scaled this week, as a weaker-than-expected business activity reading sparked concerns about economic growth. That hurt investor sentiment already battered by uncertainty around imminent trade war after US President Donald Trump this week imposed an additional 10 per cent tariff on imports from China, while also announcing 25 per cent tariffs on goods from Mexico and non-energy imports from Canada.

US Stock Market on February 21 | Here is how Dow Jones, S&P 500 & Nasdaq fared

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) tanked as much as 728 points, or 1.6 per cent, to 43,448.6, the S&P 500 fell 87 points, or 1.4 per cent, to 6,030.5 and the technology scrips-heavy Nasdaq Composite slid to as low as 19,6223, down 339.4 points, or 1.7 per cent, from its previous close. A sell-off across most sectors weighed on the US share market, with consumer discretionary, industrial, material and energy spaces being the worst hit.

At the last count, the DJIA was down 723.6 points at 43,453 and the S&P 500 was down 86.3 points at 6,031.3 while the Nasdaq was down 326.3 points at 19,636.

The three main US equity barometers were on track for a weekly decline, with heavyweights like Amazon.com and Walmart Inc being among the top blue-chip losers.
