Black artists have always found a way to make their impact on the music industry, but they don’t always get proper recognition. We’ve chosen to highlight four of these artists that deserve household-name status in 2025!
Leon Thomas
Singer/Songwriter Leon Thomas III has been in the game for quite a while. Starting as a child actor, he starred in some of your favorite projects like The Backyardigans and the iconic Nickelodeon show, Victorious.
The 31-year-old is also an accomplished songwriter, having written and produced projects for artists like SZA, Ariana Grande, and Giveon. Snooze? He produced it. Honeymoon Avenue? He co-wrote it. The man is a musical genius. But he doesn’t just work his magic on other projects, but his own as well.
Thomas released his new studio album Mutt in September 2024. With profound lyricism, expert production quality, and tender vocal prowess, the project is already a classic. The singer does justice to Black soul legends of the past, proving artistry is not dead.
And we can’t wait to see just how bright his star shines!

Alemeda
If you love artists like Avril Lavigne and Olivia Rodrigo, we have the perfect artist to add to your list. Alemeda is the pop-infused, alternative, rock girlie of your dreams! Her songs are bangers and her style is *chef’s kiss*. The singer, who hails from the beautiful country of Ethiopia, has recently made a big mark on social media, going viral every couple of months as people discover her incredible music.
But Alemeda has been putting in the work for longer than that, honing her craft and refining her artistry. The 25-year-old’s new tour, FK IT, recently sold out, and she is in high demand, booking upcoming tours with Rachel Chinouriri and Halsey and teasing new collaborations. And may we just say, we are here for all of it!

Ravyn Lenae
Ravyn Lenae released one of the most hypnotic albums of 2024, and possibly of all time, with Bird’s Eye. Featuring ten tracks, the project is one-of-a-kind. Stimulating in nature, each track has a euphoric quality that leaves you hooked from the very first second.
The Chicago-born singer is only 26, but has the creative flair of a veteran, most likely because she’s been singing, creating, and innovating since childhood. Her music is a melodic fusion of R&B, jazz, country western, and pop influences. She has mastered just about every genre, which makes sense because her scintillating vocals could sing the alphabet and we’d yell “More!”
Lenae deserves all the success she has gotten and more. Her star will only continue to rise brighter and when she eventually wins a Grammy, we’ll say “We told you so!”

Denitia
First, let’s clear two things up:
1). There are tons of talented Black country artists out right now that deserve more recognition.
2). If it weren’t for the Black community, country music wouldn’t exist. Now, that we’ve established that, let’s talk about Denitia!
Named a member of CMT’s 2024 Next Women of Country, Denitia is in a lane all her own. The singer has mastered R&B, indie, and Americana, and continues to honor her country roots. And she does it all while being authentically herself in every way. Her artistry is grounded in her identity as a Black, queer woman and her music has created a space for others to feel safe.
Her music is warm and soulful, her voice is light, and her heart shines through in her work. We could go on and on about our favorite songs of hers, but what the heck? Listen to them all!
