One of my favorite museums is the Museum of Moving Image in Queens. Now, it just got even better because the museum has a Mission: Impossible exhibit that takes you through Ethan Hunt’s journey!
The exhibit opened today and included artifacts from the films, including some pieces from Tom Cruise’s exclusive collection. Cruise also did an interview all about his work on the franchise and how he approached different stunts to make sure they work! One of the coolest parts of his interview was when he spoke about his own knowledge of lying and how it impacted how he thinks about stunts as well as how it would look on film.
But what I found incredibly moving about the exhibit was the wide range of reactions from journalists there. We all were invited by Paramount to cover the exhibit and I eagerly accepted as both a fan of the Mission: Impossible franchise and a lover of the Museum of Moving Image. The Queens institution encourages a love of all types of filmmaking and it is the best place to go and spend a day (and it is here I saw Kiki’s Delivery Service for the first time on the big screen).
With the Mission: Impossible exhibit, each film was laid out in its own section with storyboards, scenes, and even interviews with the creatives. And yes, all those masks that the team uses were on display.
This exhibit is exciting not only for fans of Mission: Impossible but just cinema lovers as a whole. You get to see Cruise talking about his process, see the work that goes into some of the most intense stunts out there, and you can hear that sweet theme song on repeat. What’s not to love?
So run like Tom Cruise to the Museum of Moving Image. You won’t want to miss it!
