India defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, taking a 1-0 lead. The match, played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, marked India’s first victory in Perth since 2008.
India won the toss and chose to bat first but was bowled out for 150 runs in their first innings. In response, Australia struggled against the Indian bowlers and was dismissed for just 104 runs, giving India a 46-run lead. Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the first innings, taking 5 wickets.
In the second innings, India had a stellar start with an opening partnership of 201 runs between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. KL Rahul scored 77 runs, while Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant knock of 166 runs. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten with a century, scoring 100 runs, and Nitish Reddy contributed 38 runs, remaining not out. India declared their innings at 487/6, setting Australia a daunting target of 533 runs.
Australia’s chase got off to a poor start, losing three wickets for just 16 runs. Travis Head scored the highest for Australia with 69 runs, while Mitchell Marsh contributed 47 runs. However, the team could not withstand the Indian bowling attack and was bowled out for 238 runs in the second innings.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took three wickets each in the second innings. With this victory by 295 runs, India took a 1-0 lead in the series.
